Understanding Fraction Operations
Fractions represent parts of a whole. Here is how standard operations work:
- Addition/Subtraction: Requires a common denominator. Convert fractions so they have the same bottom number, then add/subtract the top numbers.
- Multiplication: Multiply the numerators (tops) together and the denominators (bottoms) together.
- Division: Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal (flip) of the second fraction.
