Understanding eGFR
Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease. It calculates how much blood passes through the glomeruli (tiny filters in the kidney) each minute.

Race-Free Calculation
Important: This calculator uses the CKD-EPI 2021 Refit equation. This modern formula removed the "African American" variable to eliminate racial bias in medical diagnostics, as strictly recommended by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN).
Kidney Disease Stages
Stage 1-2 (> 60 mL/min)
Usually considers normal function, unless there is other evidence of kidney damage (like protein in urine).
Stage 3 (30 - 59 mL/min)
The "Middle Zone". Indicates moderate kidney damage. Requires regular monitoring by a doctor to prevent progression.
Stage 4-5 (< 29 mL/min)
Severe damage or Kidney Failure. Pre-dialysis planning or transplant evaluation is typically required.
